Lawyer's Aid Service

In this full-time position as a paralegal clerk trainee, you will assist with trial prep related to real estate valuation by assembling exhibits and trial notebook for an early February hearing and mediation, and possibly later trial. You will work with a team and a solo attorney in UT West Campus.

If you have an interest, additional training may include commercial real estate acquisition, due diligence, and management, as well as business entity formation (corporations, LLCs, etc.).

Pay

Starting at $16 an hour. More possibly DOE.

Requirements

30 hours per week minimum
Good academics, or relevant experience (e.g., law, pre-law, real estate, paralegal)
Writing skills (you may attach a sample of your writing to your application)
Willingness to support a fragrance-free office

It’s a small, stable legal service company with about 15 full-timers and part-timers. It’s never had a layoff. About a quarter are students. Flexible schedules

This position is 18-40 hours a week, and flexible scheduling is possible between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Availability between 1:30 and 5:30 PM is strongly preferred for part-time workers.

Lawyer's Aid Service's office is located in Austin, Texas, at 505 W 15th St, between Guadalupe and Nueces. UT and ACC Rio Grande students who work here find it easy to park at work, walk to class, and then walk back to work. (Being a student is not at all required.)

The work you'll do

Mac Systems Administrator Trainee

Description

As a Macintosh Systems Administrator Trainee, you'll be part of a small team supporting about 30 Apple computers and servers and two PCs at two offices near UT. We use wiki-style IT documentation, training, and project management.

Typical tasks are related to:

network performance, monitoring, and maintenance
managing email user accounts and settings, and monitoring service performance
managing website content, updates, and settings, and monitoring website uptime and performance
onboarding and offboarding end-users
negotiating purchases and licensing and service contracts
database design and maintenance
maintain confidentiality and computer security
troubleshooting for 18 end users
other IT tasks as needed

Qualifications

It's helpful for this IT support position that you have experience with some of the following:

macOS administration and device management
scripting languages (such as AppleScript, PHP, Python, Perl, JavaScript)
computer security.

Please explain any experience or interest in these areas on your application.

Any of these abilities will be a plus: database design (such as FileMaker Pro), web design or development of dynamic or ecommerce websites, SEO, project management, technical writing.

Pay and hours

Pay is $28 to $33 an hour, depending on experience. 32 to 40 hours a week are preferred.

Paralegal Clerk Trainee

Pay is $22 per hour for full-time. Part-time position is $21 per hour.

Description

You will be helping attorneys all over Texas set up new businesses for their clients. We help draft, file, and retrieve legal documents such as company formation certificates for them.

Working in our office on-site, you'll be trained in creating and handling legal documents with Mac FileMaker Pro and MS Word as well as in liaison work with state agencies.

You'll receive training based on detailed orientation guides, starting with the basics and moving up at your own pace. Other staff members will coach you and answer questions. Though Lawyer's Aid Service works for attorneys, we are not a placement firm or law firm. This is not a sales position.

Examples of typical administrative tasks include helping law firm folks who contact us, answering questions, writing up and processing orders, filing, light bookkeeping, copying, emailing, faxing, scanning, and writing and editing reference manual entries.

Schedule

Your schedule will need to include all or nearly all hours during 12:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday, 22-40 hours total.

The workplace

Lawyer's Aid Service has about fifteen employees. Of the one-third who are part-time, most are students, and some go on to law school. Half have been here five years or more. It's an educated, friendly workforce.

Our workplace is a ground floor of eight offices with large windows. You'll be sharing an office with only 1-2 other people, but our staff moves between offices throughout the day, dependent upon tasks. We follow pandemic procedures when there’s a Covid alert. The atmosphere is positive and collaborative. An associated law office is six blocks away in West Campus.

Required

We are looking for a bright person who is glad to pitch in and assist where needed, is adept with people and details, and has excellent spoken and written English. A four-year degree or some college is preferred. Academic achievements (grades, test scores, honors), writing ability and interest, and work achievements are important to us. This job is on-site.
