Accounting assistant
In this in-office position with legal services firm Lawyer’s Aid Service, you'll support a small accounting team, carry out bookkeeping tasks, document procedures, scan documents, and help the operations manager and the accountant with many financial duties of operating a small business.
Hours
Flexible 18-40 hours a week in a set schedule.
Accounting assistant tasks
- Post credit card payments and resolve credit card rejections
- Reconcile credit cards and bank statements
- Develop and regularly update financial reports
- Document bookkeeping procedures
- Scan order-related documents
- Perform check maintenance
- File time cards and check stubs
You may be assigned tasks processing orders or supporting operations. Your duties are likely to evolve as you gain experience. This position gives experience in small business accounting and in working independently and with a team.
Starting pay
$19-22 an hour depending on experience and whether part- or full-time.

The workplace
Lawyer's Aid Service has about fifteen employees. Of the part-timers, several are students. About a third have been here five years or more, and some go on to law school. It's an educated, friendly workforce.
Our workplace is a ground floor of eight offices with large windows. You'll be sharing an office with 1-2 other people. The atmosphere is positive and collaborative. An associated law office is six blocks away in West Campus.
Requirements
- A college degree or at least 1 year of college
- Strong academics in accounting or related work experience
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
- Aptitude for working with numbers
- Eye for accuracy
- Authorization to work in the US
Preferred qualifications
The position is suited for a person who is reliable, accurate, and productive, a self-starter who’s intelligent and resourceful. We'd like you to be someone who enjoys detail work, data entry, staying organized, and improving documentation. Familiarity with an accounting software program and 1-2 years’ accounting or bookkeeping experience are pluses.
