Work at Lawyer's Aid Service

In Austin, TX

Paralegal Clerk Trainee, Full-time

This is a full-time position. Pay is $20 per hour. (A similar part-time position is $19 per hour.)

Description

You will be helping attorneys all over Texas set up new businesses for their clients. We help draft, file, and retrieve legal documents for them.

Working in our office on-site, you'll be trained in creating and handling legal documents with Mac FileMaker Pro and MS Word as well as in liaison work with state agencies. Though Lawyer's Aid Service works for attorneys, we are not a placement firm or law firm. This is not a sales position.

You'll receive training based on detailed orientation guides, starting with the basics and moving up at your own pace. Other staff members will coach you and answer questions.

Examples of typical administrative tasks include helping law firm folks who contact us, answering questions, filing, occasional errands to nearby state agencies, copying, emailing, faxing, scanning, and writing and editing reference manual entries.

If you enjoy helping people, solving problems, and delivering accurate work product in a team environment and want to learn skills useful in administrative work or a legal career, we're eager to receive your application!

The workplace

Lawyer's Aid Service has about twenty employees. Of the one-third who are part-time, most are students, and some go on to law school. Half have been here five years or more. It's an educated, friendly workforce.

Our workplace is a ground floor of eight offices with large windows. You'll be sharing an office with only 1-2 other people, but our staff moves between offices throughout the day, dependent upon tasks. We follow pandemic procedures when there’s a Covid alert. The atmosphere is positive and collaborative. An associated law office where you may also work is six blocks away in West Campus.

Flexible schedules

Schedule changes are flexible, subject to the needs of the business. Work hours are scheduled between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Afternoon is emphasized, as that's when we are busiest.

Required

We are looking for a bright person who is glad to pitch in and assist where needed, is adept with people and details, and has excellent spoken and written English. A four-year degree or some college is preferred. Academic achievements (grades, test scores, honors), writing ability and interest, and work achievements are important to us. This job is on-site. During Covid risk periods, the office follows masking, social distance, and other precautions.
